Velvet Lies – Muted Cries: An Inspirational True Story of Healing after Childhood Abuse

WomanToWoman.co.nz

WomanToWoman.co.nz

Auckland, New Zealand – August 13, 2012 — Velvet Lies – Muted Cries is Melanie Wadham’s vivid, and raw personal account recounting the vicious battleground of her abusive childhood and how she found a path to healing her deepest wounds.

I always knew, that I would one day find the courage to share my story and my journey of day-to-day healing from trauma and abuse, post traumatic stress disorder and depression,” says Wadham who wrote Velvet Lies – Muted Cries to help other women who still suffer in silence and shame.

Melanie’s South African childhood was violent. She hid in closets away from the muffled sounds of beatings and smothered screams until one dark day she was witness to her mother’s murder. Melanie was eleven years old.

Wadham writes, “I was a casualty of a cold war.”

Life without a mother left Melanie with no home, no family, and no protection. The role of being an adult came early. Violence continued in her foster home and she was abused sexually. Melanie emerged from her childhood with a crippling sense of powerlessness. She felt lost and broken.

After years of bad choices and hiding the horrors of her past, Melanie ultimately found freedom in telling her truth. Velvet Lies – Muted Cries is a compelling true story of courage, survival and finding one’s voice. Follow one woman’s transcendence from a broken, forgotten little girl to a woman with the power (and determination) to heal herself and others.

About the Author:
Melanie Wadham is a wife and mother of 3 boys and lives on Waiheke Island on the Hauraki Gulf of Auckland, New Zealand. She enjoys an idyllic lifestyle on the island with her family and their four cats and is a crafting and sewing enthusiast. Velvet Lies – Muted Cries is Wadham’s first novel.

“Fighting Faith” Among Erotica Fiction Books Affected by Furor over PayPal Acceptable Use Policy

Brandie Buckwine’s new book, “Fighting Faith,” was recently pulled from several digital publishers because of a decision by PayPal to ban sales of certain types of erotica from their site. PayPal is now making it clear that the ban is only to affect a narrow range of books.

Fighting Faith, by Brandie Buckwine

Sioux Falls, South Dakota, March 15, 2012Brandie Buckwine has recently had several books removed from the ebook publishers she had formerly used. Fighting Faith, an erotica fiction book was removed from BookStrand because of its dubious consent scenes. In fact, BookStrand removed all titles from that publisher.  Several of Buckwine’s other titles were removed from both All Romance Ebooks and Smashwords.

The reason for the recent uproar in the erotica publishing industry has been due to the influence and demands of PayPal. PayPal had demanded that certain types of erotica fiction be de-published from ebook sites in order for those publishers to maintain PayPal access.

This payment processing company is a virtual monopoly on the Internet. Without the convenient and safe payment method offered by PayPal, erotica fiction authors would have an extremely hard time selling their books online. What is more, readers would find it nearly impossible to buy them.

At first, it was rumored that PayPal was simply caving to pressure by credit card companies who did not want to be associated with this material. That story has since been called into question. Brandie Buckwine has become involved with the group BannedWriters.com. A blogger with that group, Madeline Morris, wrote Visa for an explanation.

Visa replied with a clear statement denying any involvement in the censorship. They also stated their position that it would not take action against lawful materials. Thus, the credit card company does not take a position in agreement with banning books.

PayPal’s recent ultimatum to ebook publishers mentioned books involving themes of rape, bestiality and incest. In each of these instances, the books referred to are written as pure fiction. Many of the banned books were only marginally related to these themes, involving subjects such as fantasy shape-shifters considered as bestiality and pseudo-incest put under the umbrella of incest.

PayPal is now showing a willingness to negotiate. PayPal spokesman Anuj Nayar states that PayPal is going to focus on ebooks that contain illegal images, rather than on basic fictional text. Nayar also states that PayPal uses the Miller Three-Prong Test for Obscenity outlined by the U.S. legal system as a guide to determine whether the books should be considered legal material.

What is more, PayPal has decided to work with individual publishers and authors to identify materials that would be considered obscene according to these U.S. legal standards.  The company is now going to give authors and publishers a chance to respond and argue in favor of their books before they are pulled from PayPal.

At this time, Brandie Buckwine’s new Fighting Faith is still available at All Romance Ebooks. However, BookStrand has removed all independent authors and new publishers. Smashwords and Exessia Publishing were also affected by the PayPal furor. Erotica authors around the country hope that the new PayPal statements will reverse many of these decisions.

The problem of censorship may never be solved completely, but PayPal is in a position right now to make a real difference for freedom of expression. With their new attitude towards their Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal has already begun to show more understanding. Authors like Brandie Buckwine hope to see a friendlier environment for their erotica fiction in the near future.

About Brandie Buckwine:

Brandie Buckwine is an erotica fiction writer. The author began reading and writing at a very young age. She had ample time to devote to her creative interests during the time she spent traveling the world with her parents during those early years.

As an adult, Brandie has written several erotica novels and novellas. They include Fighting Faith, The First Year, The Boathouse, The Long Arm of the Law, and Crazy Emma. Brandie now lives in the central USA, and raises her three children as a single mother.

Book Educator Begins Search for Talented Professors to Write Digital Textbooks for College Courses

How do professors and education authors get their works to Internet-absorbed college students? BookEducator.com has started a new system to accomplish just that, and is looking for talented textbook writers to join in its success.

BookEducator.com

Logan, Utah, January 31, 2012BookEducator.com recently introduced its new interactive, digital textbook publishing, and is searching for writers to provide the content. Expert professors, textbook writers and education authors will find a new way of using technology to impart their knowledge to college students around the world.

The digital textbooks will be low to no cost for students; however, writers stand to receive substantial financial gains in the process. BookEducator.com accomplishes this by offering a unique learning management system to universities who use the books. This provides book revenues, which are split at a fair rate between BookEducator.com and the professors writing the courses.

Another stream of income for the education writers will be the advertising that will be included along with their textbooks. Each book will be accessed from its own website, with its own individual URL.

In the past, textbooks on the web have been set up in pdf files and other formats that were difficult to interact with and use. The BookEducator.com texts will be set up like standard websites that are used in mainstream Internet applications. They will be easy to navigate and easy to manage. The book format is designed to be viewed on any electronic device.

A spokesperson for the company said, “We are looking for textbooks at all levels, but we are particularly interested in introductory courses. In fact, we are interested in publishing textbooks for all university courses.”

Professors and textbook writers will get abundant help in producing their book for the Internet. BookEducator.com will actively help and support authors as they create the basic content, tests, animations and other features of the book. Professors can write on a simple word processor, because BookEducator.com takes care of all the formatting needed.

The company’s primary goal is summarized in its slogan: Publishing Free, Digital Textbooks for University Courses. In the process, BookEducator.com is making a dramatic difference in the way university students get information, work with professors and other students, and receive their evaluations. BookEducator.com is on the cutting edge of educational technology.

Professors, education authors and textbook writers are all encouraged to contact BookEducator.com. Company representatives will discuss the advantages and possibility of publishing these experts’ books with the new online system. Writers can find out the details with no obligation whatsoever. The final decision will always be up to the writer.

Education technology has come a long way over the years. There are no signs that it will stop progressing toward a more convenient, more efficient and more effective method of attaining knowledge.  Right now, BookEducator.com is at the forefront of the movement to bring more advanced technology to today’s students. There is no doubt that the company will continue to change with the times. In the meantime, education authors have a unique opportunity to share their knowledge with the world.

About Bookeducator.com

BookEducator.com was created in the summer of 2011, and has its offices in the Wasatch Mountains of Logan, Utah. Two university professors started the company with the forethought to see the potential in pairing the expertise of professors with the advantages of cutting edge technology. The two developed a company model based on free, digital books and fair compensation to authors.

The textbooks from Bookeducator.com are available even to remote areas around the world. Whether looking for more information on using the books or wanting to find out about how to publish a book with BookEducator.com, contact BookEductor.com for complete information on the program.

Author Wendy Healy-Hindmarch Revitalizes Imaginations with New Book ~ Taeh Goes to the Vet

August 16, 2011 1 comment

Author Wendy Healy-Hindmarch has enchanted both young readers and adults with her new book, Taeh Goes to the Vet. The book is based on a Dalmatian dog that learns to face fears during a visit to the vet. It is the first in a series of children animal stories.

Adelaide,South Australia, August 16, 2011Taeh Goes to the Vet debuted recently as a new Kindle ebook on Amazon. It was written by Australian children’s and young adult author Wendy Healy-Hindmarch. The book has turned out to be fun for parents and children alike. The author plans to find a print book publisher for it soon to increase its audience among children.

Taeh Goes to the Vet is the first in a series of children’s adventure books and is based on a real dog. Healy-Hindmarch has made it a quest to recharge the imaginations of children living in a technology-saturated world by introducing lovable characters and fascinating story lines.

With a degree in childhood development, 2 children and several pets in her home, Healy-Hindmarch has excellent qualifications for writing children animal stories.  More than that, the author has a story to tell with her dog adventure stories, and a point to make in writing her book.

The author says of  Taeh Goes to the Vet, “The message I wanted to convey is that everyone has a fear, but it’s not as bad as you think it’s going to be, and that with a little bit of courage you can overcome your fear.”

Healy-Hindmarch has stated that she is prepared to give readings of the book at home in South Australia and abroad. She even suggests that she would be willing to travel as far as America to interact with readers.

Among vet children’s books, Taeh Goes to the Vet stands out as a refreshingly humorous take on the subject of fear. Parents will also enjoy the book as they are reading it to their children because it has multi-generational themes and appeal.

Healy-Hindmarch is also very concerned that children, inundated with technology, are losing their ability to imagine. She sees them using cell phones and computers at an early age and very few of them spending their time reading. With Taeh Goes to the Vet, she aims to tear the children away from their laptops and video games for a bit and entice them to look at a real book.

The new book, Taeh Goes to the Vet is available for Kindle at Amazon.com for the time being, and may soon be coming to a bookstore near you. Wendy Healy-Hindmarch has written a captivating adventure book for children, based on her own Dalmatian. The book promises to lure children away from their computers long enough to read the book, and the author hopes, long enough to discover the joys of reading every day.

Author Information:

Taeh Goes to the Vet author Wendy Healy-Hindmarch is a 41-year-old resident of South Australia with a 24-year marriage, 2 children, and various pets. She has a degree in Child Development and is nearing completion of a B.A. degree in History and Politics. She is a writer of children’s and young adults’ stories. She has also published an adult story in an Australian magazine. She is working to get a print publisher for Taeh Goes to the Vet, and has made herself available for readings inAustralia and beyond.
